The water-wash system, installed on some Canadian icebreakers, pumps a large volume of water to nozzles at the bow above the water-line. The objective is to flood the ice with water, thereby lubricating the interface between ship and ice.

Le système de déversement à la coque, que l'on trouve dans quelques brise-glaces canadiens, pompe de grandes quantités d'eau dans des buses avant au-dessus de la ligne de flottaison. Le but est d'inonder la glace d'eau, ce qui a pour effet de lubrifier la zone de contact entre le bâtiment et les glaces.
